Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about A320 Knowledge, all in one place.
Getting started
What is A320 Knowledge?
A learning resource for pilots of the Airbus A320 family. This site has three training tools: the Adaptive Trainer, the ECAM Trainer and the Interactive Cockpit. Alongside it are our YouTube channel, with explainers on the panels, displays and procedures, and our newsletter, with a monthly Tech Quiz and deep dives. Everything is written from the Airbus FCOM and FCTM.
Who is it for?
Airbus pilots, both new and veteran: anyone studying for an A320 type rating, preparing for a check or a command upgrade, or keeping their systems knowledge sharp in between.
Do I need an account?
No. Open any tool and start: nothing asks you to sign up. Your progress is kept in your browser, as explained below.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes, on a phone, a tablet or a computer. The cockpit panels are wide, so on a phone you swipe them sideways; in guided mode the ECAM Trainer moves the panel to the control you need. You can also add the site to your home screen and open it like an app.
Does it work offline?
Once you have opened the site, its pages, tools and questions are saved on your device, so they keep working on a weak connection or none at all: on a layover, or on the crew bus. The videos, on YouTube, still need a connection.
Plans and pricing
What plans are there?
Two: Free and A320 Knowledge+. Free gives you a taste of each tool: the question of the day, 10 Adaptive Trainer questions a week, 5 ECAM failures, the overhead panel and the free articles. A320 Knowledge+ opens everything: all 1,800+ questions with the trainer that learns what you know, all 20 ECAM failures with Challenge mode and checkrides, the whole flight deck with the guided tours and the exclusive deep dives. See them side by side on Pricing.
How much is A320 Knowledge+?
$12.99 a month billed yearly ($155.88 a year), or $19.99 billed monthly. Yearly saves you $84 a year, 35% off paying month to month. Prices are in US dollars, and local taxes may apply.
When can I get A320 Knowledge+?
It opens soon. Follow the newsletter to hear the day it does.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. A320 Knowledge+ renews at the end of each billing period until you cancel. Cancel in a couple of clicks: you keep access to the end of the period you've paid for, and you aren't charged again. You can also switch between monthly and yearly whenever you like.
What happens to my progress if I upgrade or cancel?
It stays. Upgrade and everything you've answered carries straight into A320 Knowledge+. Cancel and you drop back to the free plan with your history intact, ready for when you come back.
Can my airline or training centre buy it for a course?
Yes. Talk to us about seats for a type-rating cohort, a cadet programme or a fleet, priced for the group.
The Adaptive Trainer
How does the Adaptive Trainer learn what I know?
With spaced repetition. A question you miss comes back within ten minutes. One you answer correctly waits longer each time: a day, three days, a week, and up to five weeks. Your time goes to what you don't know yet, and what you do know comes back just before you would forget it.
What is a smart session?
Twenty questions chosen for you: the ones due for review come first, then new ones from your weakest systems. You can also go through your mistakes (every question you last got wrong), only questions you have never seen, or one system at a time.
What does strength mean?
How well you know a system, from 0 to 100%. Each question climbs one of five levels every time you answer it correctly, and drops back to the first when you miss it. A system's strength is the average over all its questions, with the ones you haven't seen counting as zero, so 100% means you have answered every question in it correctly five times running.
Which systems does it cover?
1,811 questions across 18 systems: Air Conditioning & Pressurisation, Aircraft General, Auto Flight & FMS, Communications, Displays & Warnings, Electrical, Fire Protection, Flight Controls, Fuel, Hydraulics, Ice & Rain Protection, Landing Gear & Brakes, Limitations & Performance, Navigation & Surveillance, Oxygen, Pneumatics & Bleed, Power Plant & APU, and Procedures & Techniques.
Where do the questions come from?
From every Tech Quiz we have published, and from a larger collection written for the Adaptive Trainer, all from the Airbus FCOM. Where the current FCOM says something different from a published Tech Quiz answer, the Adaptive Trainer leaves that question out.
The ECAM Trainer
What happens in the ECAM Trainer?
A failure comes up on the E/WD, with its aural alert, and you work the procedure as on the flight deck: read each line, press the pushbutton or move the control it calls for, then clear the alert and the STATUS page. There are 20 scenarios.
What is the difference between Guided and Challenge?
Guided tells you what to press and moves the panel to the control you need. Challenge gives you only the E/WD to go on, as in the aircraft.
What are checkrides?
Scenarios in which a second failure follows the first, so you manage two procedures one after the other, as you might in a check.
Are the procedures exact?
Every procedure is the FCOM's, line for line, as drawn in our ECAM episodes, and each scenario lists the FCOM units it comes from at the end. The one change is time: you don't wait 10 seconds for an agent, or 30 seconds for a fire to go out.
Is it the A320ceo or the A320neo?
Both. The trainers model the A320ceo and the A320neo where they differ, and each ECAM scenario says which type it shows. In the Interactive Cockpit you choose the type yourself.
The Interactive Cockpit
What can I do in the Interactive Cockpit?
Press, push, pull or turn any control on the overhead panel, the glareshield, the main panel and the pedestal, and watch the lights, the FMA and the PFD, ND, E/WD and SD respond as the FCOM describes. Type a control's name in Find a control to go straight to it, or take one of the four guided tours: thrust lock, autopilot disconnection, selected and managed guidance, and losing a generator.
Can I fly it?
No. The aircraft is held in cruise at FL350, so each control shows what it selects and engages without the aircraft climbing, descending or turning. Failures and their procedures are in the ECAM Trainer.
Can I use a keyboard?
Yes. The arrow keys move from control to control on the panel and Enter works the one ringed. Knobs turn with the arrows or the mouse wheel.
Your progress and privacy
Where is my progress saved?
In your browser only, never on a server. Every answer in the Adaptive Trainer and every ECAM Trainer score builds up on Your progress: your streak, the days you trained, your strength in each system and your best scores.
Can I carry my progress to another device?
Yes. On Your progress, copy your progress code, then paste it into the same page in the other browser or on the other device.
What happens if I clear my browser's data?
Your progress goes with it, because that is where it is kept, so copy your progress code first if you want a backup. A private or incognito window forgets it when you close the window.
Do you collect my answers?
No. Your answers and scores stay in your browser, and we don't keep a copy.
The newsletter and YouTube
What is the Tech Quiz?
Our quiz on A320 systems, sent once a month on the newsletter. We have published 51 editions so far, and their questions are in the Adaptive Trainer, where they come back at the right time with the rest.
How do I get the newsletter?
Subscribe on Substack; it is free to join. The Tech Quiz arrives once a month, with deep dives and exclusive articles in between, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
Can I suggest a video?
Yes. Comment on any video on our YouTube channel and tell us which panel or procedure to cover next, or ask about anything in an episode.
Accuracy and sources
Can I use it instead of my FCOM?
No. A320 Knowledge is an independent learning resource, for study and revision. It is not approved training material, it is not affiliated with Airbus, and it never replaces your operator's FCOM, QRH, FCTM or procedures.
My airline's procedures are different. Why?
Each operator's FCOM is customised to its own fleet, and aircraft differ in their modifications and options, so your aircraft and your manuals can differ from what we show. Where they do, follow your operator's documentation.
How do you check the content?
Everything is written from the Airbus FCOM and FCTM. The ECAM Trainer and the Interactive Cockpit run on the same model as our videos, and each procedure line, light and indication is checked against the FCOM unit it comes from. There is more on the About page.
I think I've found an error. What should I do?
Tell us the quiz number and question, or the ECAM scenario and step, and the FCOM reference if you have it. We check every report against the FCOM.
No question matches that.
